Aladdin’s magic carpet at the Carriageworks in Leeds will take off with the lead-singer of nineties boyband 911 bodyshakin' his way to pantoland!
The production promises to take audiences on an eastern adventure full of spectacle, sparkle and shine as we rediscover the treasures of this old tale.
Lee Brennan shot to fame with chart-topping hits such as A Night to Remember, Bodyshakin and Don’t Make Me Wait. The band’s debut album The Journey spent 17 weeks in the UK charts, was awarded a gold disc and even went 12 times platinum in Malaysia, such was their success and appeal.
Four more studio albums, including a Greatest Hits, and 14 singles kept the boys in the charts and the public eye from 1996 to 2000. Tours all over the UK, Europe and Asia played to sell-out audiences, including China where a western pop band had not experienced such success since the early 80s.
In 2000, Lee, Jimmy Constable and Spike Dawbarn called it a day on 911, announcing their split live on Chris Moyles’ Radio 1 Breakfast Show.
Fast forward to January 2013 and the boys were back, starring in ITV2’s huge smash hit fly on the wall documentary The Big Reunion, which documented the real life ups and downs of being part of a reunited pop band. Watched by over two million people, an arena tour followed which saw Lee and the lads perform to over 200,000 people along with bands Five, Atomic Kitten, B*Witched, Blue and Liberty X.
Paul Holman said of the panto: “I’m thrilled to be working with Lee again. Along with his fabulous vocals, he brings real charisma crossed with charm to create the slightly cheeky-chap character of Aladdin.”
Lee will be in Leeds’ traditional pantomime as Aladdin at the Carriageworks Theatre from 4 December to 9 January 2016.
